Someone, please take my credit card away! Over the past couple of months of staying home, I have realized that there are truly some things that I need to bring me joy, and sadly, online shopping to keep my sanity intact is one of them. Below I have compiled a list of things that I have bought and loved. I wanted to share this list just in case you were considering buying these items but were unsure of whether to purchase them or not.
Hatch Restore Alarm: With daylight savings time and the cold wintery weather rolling into Boston, I knew that I had to get a sunrise alarm to combat seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I purchased the Hatch Restore Alarm to help combat SAD and to find a soothing alternative to my pesky iPhone alarm. I figured that not having a blaring alarm abruptly waking me up would help with a more calm start to my morning and I have to say it has worked. Some of the features of the alarm include a reading light, night-time wind-down mode (with meditation), a nature sound library, and the color-changing sunrise alarm. I will be doing an in-depth post about my experience with the Hatch Restore after using it for a month. Stay Tuned!
Thinx: “Underwears for people with periods” Y’all these Thinx underwears are EVERYTHING! At first, I was a bit skeptical because I could not for the life of me understand the sorcery behind this underwear that allowed me to wear them during my cycle without a pad. I decided to purchase and give them a try, Ever since buying them, I have not looked back. Apart from being super absorbent and easy to clean, the Thinx’s elastic grip slightly compresses my stomach, helping to reduce the severity of my cramps. If you use this link, you get $10 off your first purchase. I'm excited for you to try them!
Shyn Sonic Toothbrush: Right when I started my Invisalign journey at the beginning of Fall, my Sonicare electric toothbrush decided it had enough of the rigorous oral regiment and died on me. As someone who considers themselves a toothbrush critic, I quickly was in the market for a new electric toothbrush, and although I liked my previous toothbrush, I wanted a more affordable option. After doing some extensive research on electric toothbrushes (I got really deep into the rabbit hole) I landed on Shyn. The Shyn’ performance is comparable to my old Sonicare, providing a cleaning that leaves my teeth feeling dentist level clean but at a competitive price. The toothbrush comes with a charger, a replacement toothbrush head, a travel case, and a couple of branded flossers. Shyn also has a subscription that sends you a new replacement brush head every 3 months. I’m looking forward to continuing to use this brand!
Brooks Ghost 13: In previous years, I’ve tried to take running seriously but whether it was deciding last minute to drop into a spin class or opting to grabs drinks after work with my coworkers, I could never successfully stick to a dedicated running routine. This year, I was determined to change that and set myself a goal of running 75 miles by the end of the summer. Since I was going to be running 4-5x a week I decided to purchase some quality running shoes. With a slew of positive reviews from serious and average runners, I bought the Brooks Ghost 13’s as my dedicated running shoes. These sneakers are a major upgrade from the running sneakers I was using in the past. Thanks to its design and supportive comfy insoles, I am able to run further distances without the discomfort of shin splints and back pains. If you know anything about me you know I HATE cardio and I can't believe I set my self-such a lofty goal, but as time went on I realized that I really enjoyed running and ended my summer covering over 90 miles!
Echelon Connect Sport: Never thought I would see the day where I would buy a spin bike for my apartment, but here we are. I love to spin but I was fine with just going to an indoor cycling studio or using the bike that was provided in my apartment gym. However, this year I’ve had a renewed dedication to my fitness and after craving the burn from a good spin session, I needed to bring the feeling in-house. I started my hunt for a spin bike that gave me Peloton performance but wouldn’t cost me the leg I needed to spin with. I decided upon purchasing the Echelon Sport from Walmart at almost a fifth of the price of what the Peloton cost and I have to admit, it outperforms my initial expectations. The frame is sturdy, feels like a quality build, and its comparable to some of the studio bikes I’ve been on. The bike has Bluetooth connectivity so you can track your ride through the mobile app or follow along with one of the many Echelon classes available with a membership. Having the bike in my apartment allows me to view my favorite Peloton classes on my tv screen. If you are looking for an exercise bike alternative to the Peloton, I highly recommend taking a look at the Echelon Sport.
Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag 1L: Since getting my Invisalign, the number of items I’ve had to carry around has increased. So I wanted a pouch that could carry all tooth care products but fit any miscellaneous items like my wallet or phone. Enter the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag. This bag checked all the boxes on my list of what I was looking for with multiple pockets, large enough space to carry my Invisalign tray holder, toothbrush, mouthwash, cellphone, and house keys with room to spare all for a price that doesn’t break the bank. What I love most about this bag is that it is stylish enough for me to wear with a cute errands outfit but rugged enough for me to wear while going on a run.
Resistance Bands: I’ve bought countless sets of resistance bands in the past to spice my workouts up but they would always find a way to roll-up my thighs. At the beginning of quarantine when my workouts had to shift from the gym to my home, I decided to invest in some equipment to maximize the results from the workouts I could do. One of the key things I promised to invest in was some quality resistance bands and purchased Walito Brand.
These are perfect because they don’t roll-up my thighs thanks to the non-slip grip on the insides of the bands. The bands also provide a level of resistance that is comparable to using the hip-abductor machine. I highly recommend getting these if you are working out from home or have limited workout equipment in your gym.
Black Girl Sunscreen: Now finding the perfect sunscreen has been such a struggle for me since I have an allergic reaction to most of the ones I’ve bought in the past. Meanwhile, the ones that do work, never blended well with my complexion and left a pasty film on my skin. I’m always on the lookout for products that have a proven track record with people who may have sensitive skin like mine and found out about Black Girl Sunscreen on a Twitter thread about skincare. Supporting this black-owned sunscreen has been such a gamechanger in my skincare routine and has made me feel more comfortable with doing activities like biking and running in the summer. Best of all, it doesn’t leave me looking like Casper’s cousin since it doesn’t leave a white film on my skin.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve purchased any of these items, or plan to purchase them.
